API keys & optimizing your experience
Local Juice works out of the box for lists, comparisons, maps, and deals. Adding your own keys unlocks the full AI experience — here's what matters and where to set it up after you sign in.
Your AI provider keys (Settings → AI Agents)
Optional but powerful. Bring your own key from any supported provider — xAI Grok, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Mistral, Cohere, Perplexity, Together AI, DeepSeek, or Meta Llama.
- ✓ Keys are encrypted at rest — only you can use them
- ✓ Powers JuiceAI chat, photo list parsing, meal planning, deal finder, and budget optimization
- ✓ Pick different models per task (chat vs. vision vs. meal plan)
- ✓ Use Test Connection after saving to confirm your key works
Without an AI key: core shopping still works; AI chat and photo parsing will prompt you to add one.
Store account connections (Settings → Stores)
Connect your Walmart or Kroger account so Local Juice can sync linked-store features. You sign in at the store's site — we store the connection encrypted.
Requires platform OAuth to be enabled by the site operator. If unavailable, you can still select stores and compare using cached/mock pricing.
Your location (Settings → Profile)
Set your default latitude, longitude, and search radius (or use "My Location" on the map). No API key needed — this drives which stores appear and how routes are calculated.
What the site runs for you (no action needed)
Some integrations are configured on the server and benefit every user automatically:
- Google Maps / Distance Matrix — live drive times on the map and store selector (falls back to estimates if not configured)
- Store discovery — New England grocer database imported from OpenStreetMap and regional sources
- Email alerts — deal watchlists and weekly savings digest (requires your notification prefs in Settings)
